After retiring from the army, he worked in the private sector, mainly in tourism, while retaining his interest in leadership development and emergency planning. His life changed direction in 1996 when he undertook a two-year ministry training course before returning to the private sector. It was during this period that he began writing mainstream fiction.
After the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, David felt prompted to write a book about what could have happened in the tsunami’s aftermath.
He continued working as
David has been married to Cathy for 46 years. They live in Christchurch, New Zealand, and have a love of traveling to the Pacific Islands. David and Cathy have two daughters and five grandchildren.
